Green Tea Soda

One of the hardest habits I had to break a few years back was kicking the diet soda. I’m not going to lie: it wasn’t easy. I missed that bubbly, sweet sensation… well, until I realized I could make my own sodas and spritzers using sparkling water.

Lately I’ve been needing a little something extra to get me through some long afternoons so I decided to combine my passion of green tea with sparkling water and vanilla stevia to create a sweet, sugar-free green tea soda. I’ll probably be sipping this until fall rolls around…

(And if you need a little more soda inspiration, some of my fave bubbly drinks include this sugar-free vanilla rosemary soda, a pineapple and cucumber spritzer, and a very tasty ginger spritzer.)

Green Tea Soda

We start by brewing some green tea. I like to brew this a few hours ahead of time or the night before so it has plenty of time to cool in the fridge.

I wanted a little extra flavor and sweetness so I used vanilla stevia drops to make it sugar-free, but you can use any sweetener desired (e.g. maple syrup, coconut sugar, honey, etc) or leave it out entirely. The beauty of this drink is that you can make it exactly how you want it!

Then we simply combine the tea and stevia with a little sparkling water. Instant soda!

I like that the flavor of the green tea isn’t overpowering in this recipe. If you want your soda to have an even stronger green tea flavor, try increasing the water to 20 ounces and adding 6 tea bags instead of 4. And, if you don’t like green tea, you can use any tea of your choice! I really like this combination with vanilla rooibus tea.
